IT'S BACK!! THIS IS A TRUE REPRODUCTION OF AN ORIGINAL REMINGTON M40 VIETNAM ERA SNIPER STOCK. WE FINALLY GOT OUR HANDS ON A REAL GOOD ORIGINAL PATTERN. THIS STOCK IS AMERICAN BLACK WALNUT, STRAIGHT GRAINED, SELECT GRADE WALNUT. IT IS APPX. 95% SHAPED, INLETTED, AND SANDED. THIS STOCK ALSO DOUBLES FOR A LATE 60'S REMINGTON M 700 SHORT ACTION BDL VARMINT STOCK. LIKE ALL REPRO STOCKS, THIS WILL HAVE SNUG INLETTING AND WILL REQUIRE MINOR FITTING. BE ADVISED BECAUSE OF MINOR CHANGES BY REMINGTON LATER METAL WILL REQUIRE FITTING. COST PER STOCK IS 185.00 PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING---I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF M 700 REMINGTONS OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS. I OWN 2 ORIGINAL SNIPERS AND HAVE EXAMINED 20 OR SO. THESE WERE SENT TO VIET NAM FIRST AS COMMERCIAL GUNS, SOME WITH CHECKERING. LATER GUNS WERE MADE FOR THE SERVICE, AND I HAVE SEEN 2 THAT HAD 40X STOCKS WITH FLOORPLATES INLETTED.THEY WERE GUNSMITHED BY ARMORERS TO BE SERVICE READY. THE FLOORPLATES ON M700'S ARE REAL INCONSISTENT. THE ROUND EXTENSION ON THE BACK OF T.G. MAY VARY AS MUCH AS 1/8" IN LENGTH, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH IT WAS POLISHED AT THE FACTORY, AND SUBSEQUENT ALTERATIONS/DAMAGE IN SERVICE. OUR PATTERN IS MADE FROM AN ORIGINAL M40, WITH OUR LATE 1960'S FLOORPLATE GLASSED IN. FLOORPLATES VARY (AS I SAID EARLIER) THRU THE LATE 1990'S. AFTER THAT, FROM 2000 THRU THE PRESENT, THE FLOORPLATE-T. GUARD GETS SHORTER AND THE MAGAZINE BOX GETS NARROWER. SO, WHAT I'M GETTING AT IS EVEN WITH LATE 60'S T.GUARD/FLOORPLATE YOU WILL FIND SOME THAT ARE TOO NARROW AND YOU'LL HAVE TO USE SOME GLASS, OR, GLUE/GLASS SOME WOOD TO TAKE UP THE SPACE. METAL GETS MORE INCONSISTENT ESPECIALLY AFTER 2000. THE BARRELED ACTIONS ARE USUALLY VERY CONSISTENT. p.s.WE APPLY SOME OIL FINISH AROUND BOLT SLOT TO REINFORCE THIS AREA FOR SHIPPING PURPOSES. SANDS OFF EASILY.
